‘Tis the season for scammers to start plying their trade and East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers is reminding everyone that by taking a few simple safety precautions you can make their job harder and maybe save yourself from becoming one of their victims.

• Beware of phishing and virus loaded emails. Check out who is sending the email before opening it.
  • Right click the email in your inbox
  • Select “View Message Source” – Is it from a legit email or a scammer trying to look like an email from a legit business?
• Ask yourself if the “deal” is too good to be true. If it sounds too amazing it may not be a deal, but a scam.
• Turn on 2Factor Authentication. It is worth the extra step to protect yourself.

National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims

The annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims pays tribute to murder victims and their surviving family members. This day gives us all the opportunity to remember those lost to homicide and to ways to support and serve surviving family members. As a community let us take this day to focus on the impact of murder on families and on our communities. East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers asks that everyone take a few moments to think of these families.

After providing a tip on a wanted person, which led to his apprehension one tipster wrote to us saying, “I will encourage others to report valid information as they learn anything that may help with law enforcement. I was doubtful, but Crime Stoppers listens and it works! We all have to do our part. Now, if we can figure out a way to help law enforcement keep criminals in jail. They just keep getting back out on the streets!”

Knoxville Police Continue Looking for Who Killed Matthew “Mack Jr” Scott
July 23, 2022

Today marks the 1-yr anniversary of the murder of Matthew Scott. On July 23, 2021 UTPD officers were conducting a property check along Riverside Drive when they found Scott unresponsive, lying next to the road. When they got out with him they discovered he had been shot multiple times. 

The Knoxville Police Department was contacted and assumed the investigation. Though East TN Valley Crime Stoppers has received several tips investigators tell us they are still looking for tips that will help them close this case and provide his family with the answers they so desperately want and need. 

Scott, better known as Mack Jr was from Kingston, SC and left behind 3 children, parents and siblings who miss him and want answers.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Joins East TN Valley Crime Stoppers

East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers welcomes the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Coffey to the Crime Stoppers family. Today, Sheriff Coffey and East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers Coordinator Stacey Payne met to officially start the Crime Stoppers program in Jefferson County. Now the residents of Jefferson County can share information they have about the location of wanted persons, criminal activity and the location of stolen property to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers all while remaining 100% anonymous. Crime Stoppers takes away the fear of retaliation. Plus, Crime Stoppers will pay a CASH reward for any tip leading to an arrest, the seizure of illegal drugs or the recovery of stolen property.

East Tennessee Valley Crime Stopper Welcomes 4 Agencies

 East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers welcomes four (4) new law enforcement agencies to the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers family. Yesterday, Grainger County Sheriff James Harville hosted East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers, Chief John McMurray of Bean Station, Mayor Marvin Braden of Blaine, and Chief Randy Holt Jr of Rutledge Police Departments for the signing where each agency became official members of the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers program.

Grainger County Sheriff’s Office is the first agency to join East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers after launching on May 5, 2021. During the first 8-months East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers worked solely with the Knoxville Police Department bringing this program to the East Tennessee Valley region and now have begun expanding. East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers Coordinator Adam Schloegel said, “now that we have introduced the program to the community and to area law enforcement we are ready to expand and we are excited to welcome Sheriff Harville and the Grainger County Sheriff’s Office to the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers family.”

Recognizing the benefit of having a crime stoppers program in Grainger County, Sheriff Harville decided to sponsor the membership for the Bean Station, Rutledge and Blaine Police Departments. Sheriff Harville stated during the signing that, “East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers is a great resource to all law enforcement agencies, large and small, and to their citizens and that Grainger County is excited to bring Crime Stoppers to all of their citizens.” Grainger County and their citizens will now be able to submit tips to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers anonymously knowing that if their tip leads to an arrest they may be eligible for a cash reward.

East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers President Harold Cannon welcomed Grainger County Sheriff’s Office, Bean Station Police Department, Blaine Police Department and Rutledge Police Department to the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers family, stating that, “It is through these partnerships that we will make the East Tennessee Valley region a safer place to raise our families, work, play and visit.”

Chief John McMurray, Chief Randy Holt Jr and Mayor Braden were all very happy to join Sheriff Harville in signing agreements with East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers and to be able to bring this program to their citizens.

Thank you to our many tipsters! You made our first 7 months a huge success! 

East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers launched in May 2021 receiving over 1600 anonymous tips in the first 7 months resulting in 45 arrests and the closure of 33 criminal cases.  Eleven (11) of these arrests were for fugitives wanted on a variety of charges to include aggravated assault, domestic assault, theft, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and many drug related offenses to name just a few of the charges these fugitives were facing. In addition, tipsters helped remove dangerous and highly addictive drugs from Knoxville streets, such as meth, heroin and oxycodone pills.

Tipsters collected over $7200 in reward money – CASH – for these tips and as the tips keep rolling in the CASH reward money continues to be paid out.

In six (6) short months East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers has taken a bite out of crime in Knoxville.

During this time anonymous individuals have submitted over 1,275 tips resulting in:

• 30 Arrests of which 11 were fugitives
• 25 Cleared Cases
• Approved $5,150 in CASH Reward Payouts
• Seized Drugs Valued at $1,820

Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Arrest
October 12, 2021

East TN Valley Crime Stoppers received a tip on the possible location of Robert Moore, 40. The tip was sent to the Knoxville Police Department who upon investigation confirmed that Robert Moore had two outstanding warrants for Violation of Community Supervision with Criminal Offense and Intentional Tampering, Removal, Vandalism to Device 2nd Subsequent violation. Based on the information received from the tipster Moore was located and arrested. He now sits in the Knox County Jail; bond denied.
