Help Solve a Murder with Crime Stoppers

The ETNV C/S is reaching out to the public for help in solving the murder of Janaria Muhammed, a 15 year old female who was shot and killed on February 16, 2021. Police investigators are asking the community to come together and assist with the investigation. The information you provide about this murder, may help uncover who committed this heinous act. If you know anything, however small it may be, please submit a tip to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous. This type of crime is what Crime Stoppers was intended for, to provide law enforcement with tips in solving crimes such as this. No matter how small it may seem, your tip could be the piece that puts the whole puzzle together.

Crime Stoppers is designed to allow anyone with information about criminal activity, wanted fugitives or any crime to submit a tip anonymously, without fear of retaliation.  Crime Stoppers is not an emergency service and people needing a police report or police response must call the police non-emergency number or 911 if it is an emergency.

People should not use crime stoppers to report a vehicle blocking the roadway, noise complaints or two people fighting in the park. These types of incidents require an officer to respond. If someone needs to report driving offenses such as speeding, reckless driving or driving while intoxicated, contact the local 911 Center’s non-emergency number. Crime Stoppers cannot take tips or information from a victim of a crime.

Remember, all citizens are the eyes and ears of the community they live in. Everyone deserves to be safe in their home and neighborhood. We can only hope that someone will come forward with information that leads to the arrest of Janaria Muhammed’s killer. Arresting the person responsible for this heinous act will not only make Janaria Muhammed’s neighborhood safer, but the entire Knoxville Community as a whole.

East TN Valley Crime Stoppers is Growing Again!

The East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers program makes it easier than ever to track Knoxville’s wanted fugitives, read about featured and unsolved crimes, and help find missing persons through social media.

On May 5, 2021 the City of Knoxville and the Knoxville Police Department joined the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers board of directors to unveil the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers program. By the end of the first day Crime Stoppers had received 7 tips and within 10 days Crime Stoppers received its first tip that lead to an arrest.

Fast-forward a few days to May 13th, twitter.com/tn_crime was introduced, then the following week, on Monday, May 17th East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers launched the facebook.com/EastTennesseeValleyCrimeStoppers page.

Case Closed, Arrest Made
May 11, 2021

On April 28, 2021, the Knoxville Police Department received a call reporting the theft of a cell phone that took place at the Walmart on Kinzel Way. While using the self-checkout lane the shopper set her phone down to scan her items, when she turned back around her phone was gone.

Information of the theft along with pictures of the suspect were posted on the Knoxville Police Department’s Facebook page along with how to submit a tip to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers. Within a few short days an anonymous tip came in identifying the suspect. This tip was sent to the case investigator who was able to positively identify the suspect, complete the investigation and make an arrest.

East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers encourages all our citizens to help in the fight against crime. Mayor Kincannon, City of Knoxville Makes Investment in East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers
April 22, 2021

In October of 2020, Chief Thomas and members of the Knoxville Police Department began discussing the need to establish a program where citizens can give a tip, remain completely anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward. As KPD was beginning to work towards establishing a Crime Stoppers program in Knoxville, the city was simultaneously shaken by the murder of multiple high school students. Those tragic events further drove home the need for this type of program.

Fast forward to February, when Mayor Indya Kincannon approached City Council to request funding to implement violence interruption strategies in Knoxville. The Council approved $1,000,000 to go towards these types of programs with $13,000 of that funding specifically allocated for the Crime Stoppers program being developed by the Knoxville Police Department.

On April 23, 2021, a check was delivered to the newly-formed East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers program. This donation not only helped offset some of the startup costs, but also provided $8,000 in reward money to pay tipsters.

Though Crime Stoppers is new to Knoxville, it has been in existence since 1976, successfully providing crime tips on a variety of criminal activity. East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers is an independent, citizen run, non-profit program that provides a mechanism for citizens to provide information on crimes and criminal activity in a safe and anonymous manner.

East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers Hold Inaugural Meeting
April 14, 2021

On Wednesday, April 14, 2021 several community members met to form the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers, a non-profit with one mission to make the East Tennessee Valley a safer place for everyone. After this meeting State and Federal documents were filed and accounts were opened officially forming the East TN Valley Crime Stoppers Program.

East TN Valley Crime Stoppers relies on active and dedicated community members to serve on the all-volunteer board of directors, operating on donations from businesses, clubs, associations and individuals. The reward money paid out by the program comes from fundraising and donations.

East TN Valley Crime Stoppers encourages the community to assist local law enforcement in the fight against crime by supporting the East TN Valley Crime Stoppers financially and by living by the saying, “See Something, Say Something.”
