Gunshot Victim Located on Riverside Drive
July 23, 2021

Victim was identified as Matthew Scott Jr, 35 

 

At around 4:40 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021, UTPD officers were conducting a property check on Riverside Drive when they observed an unresponsive male victim lying next to the roadway on Riverside Drive. The victim was found to be suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and KPD officers were dispatched to the scene. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced deceased on the scene. KPD Major Crimes Unit investigators and Medical Examiners Office personnel responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which remains in the preliminary stages.

Around 2:30 Wednesday morning, January 6, 2021, the Knoxville Police Department responded a shooting that occurred at the corner of Fuller Avenue and Wilder Place where they found Harry Upshaw, 44 suffering from a gunshot wound. Harry was transported to UTMC where he was pronounced deceased. KPD investigators need the communities help to give Harry’s children, parents and siblings closure and to bring the murderer to justice.

Information Sought in Case of Missing and Endangered Desheena Kyle

The Knoxville Police Department continues to ask the public for help in locating missing and endangered Desheena Kyle (26) or provide any information regarding the circumstances of her disappearance. Desheena was reported missing from Wilson Road on June 28. While she was possibly seen some time around June 23, the last verified sighting was on June 18. Investigators have strong reason to believe that Desheena could be in danger. Desheena is approximately 5’3 and 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Do you recognize these two men? On June 22, 2021 at 9 am they entered 640 Liquor Store on Western Avenue in Knoxville where they proceeded to take several bottles of liquor and conceal them. After making their selections they fled the store in a white Ford Expedition with a TN handicap tag and damage to the passenger side mirror.

KPD Looking for Gay Street Robbery Suspects

On Thursday, June 3, 2021 at around 9:20 p.m., Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a robbery at 112 Gay Street. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, a 23-year-old female, who reported she had been robbed at gunpoint. The victim stated that as she entered the Fire Street Alley, she was grabbed by an unknown suspect, who allegedly threw her up against the wall and pointed a gun at her. The victim stated there were a total of three suspects involved in the robbery, and the suspects fled out of the alley with her purse. The victim was not injured during the robbery. 

One of the suspects was described as a male wearing a green ski mask and cream or khaki colored shirt and pants, while the other two suspects were only described as wearing black ski masks. The suspects possibly fled the scene in a newer-model black Nissan Versa.

UPDATE - KPD Seeking Information on Murder of Muhammad Allen

***UPDATE***  KPD investigators are asking for the communities help in the fatal shooting of 41-year old Muhammad Allen, a Knoxville native. Anyone who witnessed the shooting, was in the area around the time of the shooting, or spoke with Mr. Allen is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. At around 1:15 pm on Monday, May 17, 2021, officers from the Knoxville Police Department responded to the 2700 block of Louise Avenue to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, an adult male victim was found inside a vehicle, outside of 2710 Louise Avenue suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. Violent Crimes investigators responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which is in the preliminary stages. There is no suspect information at this time.

Stolen Trailer

UPDATE*** SUSPECT ARRESTED WITH STOLEN TRAILER ON MAY 18, 2021***
KPD Investigators are attempting to locate the Mid South Commercial Roofing dual axle Burkhold Utility trailer stolen from 1601 Midpark Road on 05/03/2021. The wrapped trailer contained tools and equipment valued at approximately $50,000. Attached are pictures of the wrapped trailer, the trailer without the wrap and a specialized Graco 833 Pump Sprayer that was inside the trailer.
 
The suspect's vehicle is a black Tahoe with dark tinted windows, similar to the one seen in the attached picture.

Reward Increased in Murder of 15-yr. old Janaria Muhammad
April 28, 2021

STATUS: OPEN

On February 16, 2021 the Knoxville Police Department responded to a call of a shooting on Selma Avenue. Once offices arrived they found Janaria Muhammad, a 15 year old female, unresponsive and suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers gave aid until EMS arrived and transported her to the hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital Janaria was pronounced deceased. The death was ruled a homicide. The investigation continues.

 

Janaria's family and friends still mourn her death and grieve the loss of what her life could have been if not lost at such a young age. We are confident that there are people in the community who know her attackers were - we just need them to come forward. We are hopeful that the enhanced reward will be the incentive someone needs to finally step up and do the right thing.

Witt Building Materials Truck Stolen - Suspect at Large

Just before 6 am on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 a white male suspect entered the property of Witt Building Materials located at 1242 East Weisgarber Road and stole a 1984 green International 9V4 flatbed pickup truck.
 
The suspect is alleged to have ran the truck through the locked gate, possibly causing front-end damage.
